Creative Writing/Academic Writing

Class Information:

Creative writing classes are available for students and adults in the Central Valley of California, including Reedley, Dinuba, Selma, Kingsburg, Squaw Valley, Fresno and Visalia. For long-distance students, a central meeting location can be arranged. Class sessions can also be arranged on Zoom, which is especially helpful for students who may live out of town.

Creative writing and grammar tutoring focuses on teaching the student the methods of storytelling, structure, plot, dialogue and flow. The student is also taught the basics of grammar and English, and how it applies to both creative and academic writing. Often, younger students are also assigned books to read: reading creates a better writer, after all.

Expository writing classes focus on essays, research papers, and applying MLA-formatting to students' work, effectively preparing them for college-level writing in the future.

Writing class sessions are 1-2 hours long. Homework and reading assignments are given weekly. Classes are offered in 10-12 week blocks. Summer tutoring is available upon request in some situations.

You may enroll privately in any class. Summer also works in partnership with Inspire Schools, which serves Monarch River Academy and Yosemite Valley Charter School. Contact your school to see if you may be eligible to receive an enrichment certificate to cover the cost of this writing class.
